Week 9: My First Transfer

Image
Hallo Friends and Family! I have officially finished my first transfer in the mission! Sister Carter and I will be staying together in Salzburg, so I'm really excited to be spending another transfer with her!  Last Tuesday, we went dirndl shopping. We decided to go shopping in Neumarkt because it would be way less expensive than going shopping in Salzburg. For context, Neumarkt is a smaller town about 30 minutes away from Salzburg. They had a cute little dirndl shop where you could buy them second-hand. I found a dirndl that I absolutely loved, but it was just a bit too big for me. We asked the lady working there if they had it in a smaller size. It turns out that they alter clothing there as part of the purchase, so I got a really good deal for it! Anyway, my dirndl is being altered right now, but I'm really excited to wear it! In our mission, all of the sisters have a tradition of wearing their dirndls to Christmas zone conference, and I can't wait! :) We taught quite...

Week 8: Easter

Image
Liebe Friends and Family, This week was a very special week for me. It was so nice to celebrate Easter and have the opportunity to hear from Elder Uchtdorf and his family. Last Tuesday, we went to the Hellbrunn Wasserspiele. It's basically a giant mansion with a beautiful park and some trick water fountains. The story behind it is that some wealthy bishop, who lived during the Renaissance, built it because he loved playing tricks on his friends. (Take my explanation with a grain of salt because the tour was in German, and I'm not sure if I understood it correctly haha.) Anyway, there was one part of the tour where we sat around a table and water shot up from under the seat and splashed us. The only person who didn't get splashed was sitting in the bishop's seat at the head of the table. Wednesday was a normal proselytizing day, and we had the opportunity to visit a family in our ward. They were so cute, and I loved getting to know them!  On Thursday, we went to Munic...

Week 7: The Apple Drink Incident

Image
Hallo Friends and Family! This week was quite interesting.  Last P-day we went to the bakery that I wanted to try! I just got a brioche bun for like 2€, and it was delicious! The bakery was in a little basement, and the baker was wearing Lederhosen. It was really interesting to see! We then hiked up a mountain to the Hohensalzburg Fortress. It was a very difficult climb, but it was worth it! We passed through a beautiful cemetery on the way up and had a beautiful view of the city when we got to the top. This week, we had a meal appointment with a family of members. They made us a very traditional German meal, and it was delicious! We had a yummy salad, sauerkraut, vegetables, and some German noodles. They then took us to the chapel where Silent Night was written! It was this tiny little chapel and not what I expected. However, I was so glad that I got to see it! On Friday, we had a meal appointment with the Salzburg Elders and a member, but some of the people there weren't members....

Week 6: Teaching Appointments & General Conference!!

Image
Hallo Friends and Family! I finished another week in the field! Things are starting to pick up with us here in Salzburg. We had the opportunity to teach more lessons this week, and had our first dinner appointment with members. Luckily, the whole thing was in English haha. The other lessons we did were in German, but Sister Carter handled the majority of them. One of the ladies is so sweet! She is excited to hear more, and we are excited to see hear again! We had a lesson with the man we met on the street last week. He was so happy when we gave him a Book of Mormon. He also has been reading it because he has been sending us the verses that he likes! Last p-day, we were planning on going to what I believe is the oldest bakery in Europe. Unfortunately, all the shops here close earlier than we're used to. The bakery ended up being closed, so we got some pizza instead. The pizza was good, but I really want to try something from that bakery. I'm determined to go there the next chanc...
